How Rovo solves search challenges through entity linking

This post details the Entity Linking service, a core component of Rovo, which transforms unstructured text into structured knowledge by accurately associating textual mentions with specific records in the Knowledge Graph. The service identifies mentions in text and connects them to their corresponding unique entries, serving RAG & Chat, Search Relevance, and Knowledge Indexing. It tackles challenges like high variance, low distinctiveness, noise, volatility, contextual dependence, sparse metadata, diverse naming conventions, and privacy constraints, particularly for Team Names. The solution employs a cascade architecture with detection (transformer-based sequence tagging), recall (user relation, lexical, and embedding-based paths), and ranking (XLM-RoBERTa cross-encoder and LLM-powered relevance scoring) stages. Future work includes one-hop relation resolution and implicit/virtual team identification.
