How does Cloudflare’s Speed Test really work?

This post introduces Cloudflare's Speed Test, a new tool that measures internet connection quality by focusing on realistic usage patterns rather than peak throughput. It details how the test works, leveraging Cloudflare's global network and Workers, and explains how to interpret its results, which include loaded and idle latency, jitter, packet loss, and an Aggregated Internet Measurement (AIM) score. This expands the scope of website content optimization to include user-facing measurement tools that assess the quality of experience for various online activities.
