This post introduces Cloudflare Network Interconnect (CNI), a new capability that allows customers to directly connect their on-premise networks to Cloudflare's global network. CNI offers private network interconnects (PNIs) and Internet Exchange (IX) options, providing enhanced security, reliability, and performance benefits compared to using the public internet. It integrates with existing Cloudflare products like Cloudflare Access, CDN, Magic Transit, and Cloudflare Workers, enabling dedicated on-ramps to Cloudflare's network for improved performance and reduced threat exposure, particularly for Magic Transit by removing GRE tunnels over the public internet. The post also provides a hypothetical example of Penguin Corp using CNI with Cloudflare for Teams and Magic Transit to secure its branch and core networks.
