Network performance update: Speed Week 2023

This post details Cloudflare's ongoing efforts to improve network performance, specifically highlighting the increase in networks where Cloudflare is the fastest provider (from 33% to 46%) and the improvement in networks where it's within 2ms or 5% of the fastest (from 8% to 10%). It outlines the tooling and processes used, including Real User Measurements (RUM) and a Performance Benchmarks Dashboard, to monitor metrics like TCP Connection Time and Time to First Byte (TTFB). The post also details the three main categories of actions taken to improve performance: establishing peering, expanding compute capacity, and applying traffic engineering.
