Cloudflare Workers now supports direct integration with PostgreSQL databases, enabling developers to build serverless applications with a familiar relational database backend. This integration leverages PostgREST to expose database functionality as a REST API, which can be securely accessed from Workers via Cloudflare Tunnel. This allows for the creation of globally distributed APIs and intelligent caching layers in front of Postgres, without requiring migration to a new database-as-a-service platform. Hyperdrive further enhances this by providing a connection pooler and caching for SQL databases, reducing latency and protecting origin databases from connection exhaustion.
