What this trail covers

Cloudflare Artifacts, a versioned filesystem designed for agents, is now in open beta. New capabilities include connecting Artifacts repositories to Workers for automated builds and deployments, managing Artifacts directly from Workers via bindings, subscribing to repository events for workflow automation, and choosing data jurisdiction (US or EU). Metrics for repository operations are now available in the dashboard and via API. Pricing based on operations and storage will commence October 15, 2026. A competition is being held to encourage the development of next-generation Git platforms on Cloudflare using Workers and Artifacts.

It leverages Git as the data model and protocol, allowing programmatic creation of repositories, programmatic commits, and forking. It uses Durable Objects for stateful compute, a custom Zig-based Git server compiled to WebAssembly for protocol implementation, R2 for snapshots, and KV for token tracking. It also introduces ArtifactFS, an open-source filesystem driver for quickly mounting large Git repositories by hydrating file contents on demand.
