GitLab Duo Chat gets agentic AI makeover

Introduces GitLab Duo Agentic Chat, an evolution of GitLab Duo Chat that transforms conversational AI into an action-oriented assistant. Agentic Chat can autonomously determine information needs, execute operations across multiple sources (e.g., project structure, READMEs, issues, MRs), formulate comprehensive responses by combining insights, and create/modify files. It is built on the Duo Workflow architecture and is currently available as an experimental feature in VS Code for users with Duo Core, Duo Pro, or Duo Enterprise add-ons. The post details a four-step workflow demonstration: understanding the project, understanding the assigned task, implementing the solution by editing files, and verifying completion by analyzing MRs against issues. Known limitations include slower response times, keyword-based search, and limited support for non-GitLab projects. Future plans include general availability, improved response times, self-hosted model support, support for JetBrains and Visual Studio, integration with the GitLab web application chat, editing GitLab artifacts, and terminal command execution.
