GitLab Transcend Hackathon: What developers built on GitLab Orbit

This post details the results of the GitLab Transcend Hackathon, where developers built on GitLab Orbit. Key themes emerged: understanding code dependencies ('what breaks this change'), test relevance, migration costing, and incident root-cause analysis. Several winning projects demonstrated novel applications of GitLab Orbit's graph-based context for agents and engineers. Sankofa used Orbit for blast radius analysis of changes and vulnerabilities. Stayed Shipped tracked AI-merged changes' production survival. Carver provided migration cost quotes based on dependency graphs. Marshal automated repo-by-repo migrations. CrossCut optimized CI by running only relevant tests. OrbitWeaver performed autonomous refactoring using the dependency graph. Transcend built a reasoning engine on top of Orbit using semantic web technologies for complex queries. Universal Agent OS focused on governance for AI agents. The Contribute Track saw 61 merge requests merged into the Orbit codebase, improving language support, fixing bugs, and enhancing documentation.
