Grab has adopted a comprehensive app modularization strategy to break down its monolithic Android application into smaller, independent, and interchangeable modules. This approach aims to improve code maintainability, reduce code conflicts, accelerate development cycles, and enhance collaboration among development teams. The strategy involves creating base/core modules (Networking, Analytics, etc.), shared library modules (Styling, Common-UI), feature modules (Payments, Wallet), and kit modules to enable inter-module communication. This has led to significant improvements in build times and developer experience, with over 1,000 modules in the Grab app.
