Terraform Modules for IBM Cloud Infrastructure

1 post · Feb 2026

What this trail covers

The terraform-ibm-modules project provides production-tested, IBM-supported Terraform modules for building and managing IBM Cloud infrastructure. These modules encapsulate best practices for service configuration, security, compliance, and scalability, enabling faster and more reliable infrastructure deployments. The project integrates with AI assistants via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to facilitate AI-assisted infrastructure composition. The latest iteration emphasizes AI-ready building blocks and the integration of financial services compliance controls via `fscloud` submodules.

  1. Terraform modules for IBM Cloud: AI-ready building blocks for cloud infrastructureThis post introduces the concept of AI-ready building blocks for cloud infrastructure using terraform-ibm-modules. It highlights how these modules encapsulate hard-won knowledge about service-to-service authorizations, encryption defaults, auto-scaling, and context-based restrictions. The post details the structure of the modules, their composition via Terraform, and the inclusion of `fscloud` submodules for financial services compliance. It also emphasizes the role of the MCP server in enabling AI-assisted composition of infrastructure using these modules, and the ongoing maintenance and open-source collaboration around the project.
