Meta's developer tooling has evolved with the introduction and open-sourcing of Flipper, an extensible cross-platform debugging tool for iOS and Android applications. Flipper builds upon lessons learned from Stetho, offering a more extensible, visually interactive, and cross-platform debugging experience. It allows engineers to inspect view hierarchies (including Litho and ComponentKit), surface GraphQL requests, track performance markers, and debug network traffic and system logs. Flipper's architecture consists of a desktop client (built with Electron, React, Flow, Metro, RSocket, Yarn) and a mobile SDK (using Folly, RSocket), enabling bidirectional communication and custom plugin development for specific use cases. The tool aims to improve developer workflows by providing deeper insights into application structure and behavior.
