An analysis of Facebook photo caching

This post details an analysis of Facebook's multi-layered photo-serving caching stack, including browser caches, edge caches, and origin caches. It quantifies the effectiveness of each layer, analyzes the shifting popularity distribution of photos across these layers, and evaluates the impact of increasing cache sizes and advanced caching algorithms (FIFO, LRU, LFU, S4LRU, Clairvoyant) on hit ratios.
