Facebook to open-source AI hardware design

This post introduces 'Big Sur', Meta's next-generation GPU-based system for training neural networks at scale. Big Sur is an Open Rack-compatible 8-GPU server designed for AI computing, incorporating high-performance GPUs and flexible PCI-e topologies. It offers twice the performance of previous generations and allows for further scaling through distributed training. The hardware is optimized for thermal and power efficiency, enabling operation in free-air cooled data centers. It also features improved serviceability with toolless component replacement. Meta plans to open-source the Big Sur design and contribute it to the Open Compute Project.
