Exploring new frontiers for Git push performance
May 15, 2019Derrick Stolee

Summary
Introduced a new sparse pack algorithm for Git that dramatically improves the git push operation on large repos. This algorithm walks uninteresting and interesting commits and trees simultaneously, using commit date and paths as heuristics to identify the frontier and reduce the scope of the tree walk. This leads to significant performance boosts, such as a 7.7x improvement for the Windows team.
