Write pseudocode for a ReAct-style loop
ReAct-Style Agent Loop Pseudocode
Design and implement, using pseudocode, a ReAct-style agent loop. This loop should facilitate an intelligent agent's interaction by alternating between internal reasoning and external actions.
Requirements
- The agent initiates its process upon receiving a user question.
- In each iteration, the underlying model component generates three distinct outputs:
Thought: Represents the agent's internal reasoning or plan for the current step.Action: Specifies a tool to be invoked (e.g.,Search,Calculator,LookupDB) or signals the completion of the task viaFinish.ActionInput: Provides the necessary arguments for the chosen tool.
- If an
Action(other thanFinish) is selected:- The specified tool must be invoked with the provided
ActionInput. - The result of the tool invocation, termed
Observation, must be captured. - This
Observationshould then be appended to the agent's context, making it available for subsequent iterations of the model.
- The specified tool must be invoked with the provided
- The loop must terminate under two conditions:
- When the model explicitly chooses the
Finishaction. - When a predefined maximum number of steps is reached, preventing unbounded execution.
- When the model explicitly chooses the
- Implement basic safeguards to ensure robustness:
- Mechanism for enforcing maximum steps or timeouts for tool calls.
- Graceful handling of errors that may arise during tool execution.
- Logic to prevent the agent from entering infinite loops.
Deliverable
Your solution should clearly outline the pseudocode for the agent's main loop structure and detail the data elements maintained within the agent's state (e.g., conversation history, scratchpad, tool outputs).
