Problem Description
You are tasked with designing data systems for a fully autonomous robotaxi service. This service allows passengers to request rides, get picked up, and be dropped off. During active trips, robotaxis are continuously monitored by human tacticians located in a teleoperations center.
Teleoperations tacticians have the following capabilities:
- View a robotaxi's live location.
- View real-time video feeds of the vehicle's surroundings.
- Take remote control of or assist a robotaxi when a "stuck event" or other help request occurs.
The typical operational flow for a teleoperations intervention is:
- A robotaxi initiates a request for help from the teleoperations center.
- This request is placed into a queue.
- A tactician is assigned to service the request.
- The assigned tactician then observes the situation, provides advice, remotely controls the vehicle, escalates the issue, or resolves it.
It is important to note that there are always more active robotaxis operating than there are available tacticians. Consequently, a single tactician may be responsible for supporting multiple robotaxis concurrently or sequentially over the course of their shift.
Design Requirements
Your design must address two distinct areas:
1. Teleoperations Efficiency and Effectiveness Data Model
Design a data model specifically for monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the teleoperations function. This design should include:
- Core entities involved.
- Appropriate table grains.
- Relationships between entities.
- Key metrics to be tracked.
2. Vehicle Stability Data Architecture and Pipeline
Design a comprehensive data architecture and pipeline aimed at measuring vehicle stability across the entire autonomous fleet. This description should cover:
- Identification of data sources.
- Data ingestion mechanisms.
- Data storage solutions.
- Data transformation processes.
- Data quality checks.
- Key metrics to be derived.
- Downstream consumers of this data.

Core dilemma
Designing robust, scalable data systems that can simultaneously support real-time operational monitoring of human-in-the-loop processes (teleoperations) and large-scale, high-volume analytical processing for fleet-wide autonomous vehicle stability, while ensuring data quality and low latency for critical safety-related insights.
