Mirage 2.0: Solving the Mobile Browsing Speed Challenge

Mirage 2.0 introduces image virtualization by storing a full-resolution and a reduced-size virtual image with dimension metadata. A Virtualized Image Packager (VIP) downloads virtualized images, places them correctly sized in the DOM, and progressively replaces them with full-resolution versions. It minimizes requests by streaming all images in a single request, similar to Rocket Loader. The VIP prioritizes loading based on viewport visibility and dynamically adapts its aggressiveness based on browser capabilities and connection speeds, gathering real-time browsing intelligence.
