Next.js applications, powered by Vite: introducing Vinext 1.0

This post announces Vinext 1.0, a framework that enables Next.js applications (both Pages Router and App Router) to be deployed on Cloudflare Workers and other platforms. Key contributions include: achieving over 99% test compatibility with Next.js features, building out a comprehensive test suite that runs the Next.js end-to-end test suite nightly, and implementing features like App Router and Pages Router support, complete page lifecycle management (server rendering, pre-rendering, ISR), shared caching functions with support for Workers Cache, Next.js-compatible tracing for OpenTelemetry and Sentry, and first-class runtime support for Workers. A significant new capability introduced is 'cache warming,' which moves page prerendering from the build machine to Cloudflare's network, pre-populating caches before deployment to production. This is achieved by deploying a new Worker version to 0% traffic, requesting pages from it, and then promoting the deployment once caches are populated.
