The road to the agentic browser: A Kitesurf update

This post details the integration of WebMCP support into Kitesurf, enabling agents to interact with websites programmatically via exposed functions. It also announces expanded API coverage for Kitesurf, including CSS Layout, CSSOM, CSS Typed OM, and Custom Elements, along with improved iframe behavior and URL-based module resolution. Significant progress in Web Platform Test coverage (730,000+ subtests) is highlighted. Internal optimizations for agent efficiency are described, focusing on reducing Wasm-JavaScript boundary crossings and improving timer/script loading. Kitesurf now has full Browser Run API coverage and supports Quick Actions from Worker scripts. A major new capability is the ability to run Kitesurf in the terminal using Kitty graphics protocol or ANSI text mode, decoupling rendering logic from the core Kitesurf execution.
