One year later: Sovereign AI and the fight for choice

This post announces the addition of two new European open-source AI models, EuroLLM and Apertus, to Cloudflare's Workers AI platform. EuroLLM supports 24 EU languages and was trained on MareNostrum 5, outperforming similar-sized models on EU multilingual benchmarks. Apertus, Switzerland's first large-scale open multilingual model, was trained on over 15 trillion tokens across 1500+ languages and emphasizes privacy compliance. The post also details the development and launch of hands-on workshops for government agencies and critical infrastructure operators to build AI defense harnesses, which coordinate multiple AI models for vulnerability hunting and threat prioritization. This harness is open-sourced and designed to work with any model, closed or open, to provide resilient AI defenses.
