Unbuckling the narrow waist of IP: Addressing Agility for Names and Web Services

This post introduces the concept of 'Addressing Agility' to decouple IP addresses from names and policies. It explains how traditional DNS binds IP addresses to names, creating a bottleneck for innovation. The proposed solution inverts this relationship, allowing IP addresses to be computed and assigned at runtime based on policies, rather than being statically bound to names. This enables any-to-any mapping between names and addresses, and allows for dynamic changes without regard to previous bindings. The work is presented as a continuation of previous efforts in breaking IP-to-interface bindings and virtual hosting.
