Secure Codebase Index Sharing

2 posts · Jan 2026 – Mar 2026

What this trail covers

Secure codebase index sharing has been enhanced with Merkle trees for efficient change detection and simhash-based vector search for reusing teammate indexes. Content proofs ensure local access, maintaining security and privacy. This system accelerates regex search for agent tools by indexing text using trigrams and inverted indexes, building upon existing secure codebase indexing capabilities.

All Cursor trails
  1. Fast regex search: indexing text for agent toolsIntroduced a new approach to accelerate regex search for agent tools by indexing text using trigrams and inverted indexes. This builds upon existing secure codebase indexing capabilities. The system decomposes regular expressions into trigrams and uses an inverted index to find potential matches, significantly speeding up searches in large codebases compared to traditional tools like ripgrep. It also discusses suffix arrays as an alternative indexing method.
  2. Securely indexing large codebasesThis post details the implementation of secure codebase index sharing using Merkle trees for change detection and simhash-based vector search for reusing existing indexes within a team. It introduces content proofs derived from Merkle trees to guarantee that clients only access files they possess, ensuring security and privacy. The system significantly reduces time-to-first-query for large codebases by enabling immediate semantic search against a copied index while background synchronization reconciles differences.
