Migrating from Underscore to Lodash
Sep 5, 2018Matthew Gerstman

Summary
This post details the migration of Dropbox's core web application from the Underscore.js utility library to Lodash. The migration strategy involved creating a Web Enhancement Proposal (WEP) for community alignment, researching necessary Lodash functions, and developing a custom, tree-shaken Lodash bundle using Webpack and lodash-webpack-plugin. Challenges in integrating with Bazel, handling TypeScript typings, and managing minification/source maps were addressed. The process also involved adapting the build to include necessary Lodash shorthands by using LodashModuleReplacementPlugin.
