Cross-Cluster Search Performance

2 posts · Jul 2023 – Sep 2026

What this trail covers

Elastic Cloud Serverless now offers cross-project search (CPS), allowing queries across up to 100 linked projects without data movement. This GA release enhances ML/AI capabilities to span linked projects, supports versionless and cloud-agnostic operation across all Elastic solutions (Observability, Security, Search, Vector DB), and provides granular access control and cost reduction. Programmatic access via a new user role is also introduced.

  1. Elastic announces GA of cross-project search on Serverless, enabling teams to query across all linked projects without moving a byteThis post announces the General Availability of Cross-Project Search (CPS) for Elastic Cloud Serverless. Key technical contributions include: support for up to 100 linked projects by default, enabling existing serverless projects to query across linked projects without migration, extending ML jobs and APM anomaly detection to span linked projects, and enabling AI agents to retrieve context from multiple linked projects. It also details the serverless-native approach, contrasting it with Cross-Cluster Search (CCS) in Elastic Cloud Hosted, and outlines the pricing model for mounted data and egress. The post also introduces a new user role for programmatic CPS access.
  2. Elastic Stack 8.9: Faster aggregations and cross-cluster searchesIntroduced `ccs_minimize_roundtrips=true` for async search, enabling Kibana to reduce network round trips in Cross-Cluster Search (CCS) operations. Implemented shard skipping for remote searches against Cold and Frozen tiers by executing the `can_match` phase in remote clusters. Enhanced the ILM Health Indicator in the Health Report API to detect indices stuck in ILM steps, providing early warnings and actionable insights.
