AI Data Usage and Privacy Controls

GitLab's approach to AI data usage and privacy is to not collect or train on customer data, regardless of subscription tier. This contrasts with Atlassian's new policy to collect metadata and in-app content by default for AI training, with opt-out only available for Enterprise customers. GitLab emphasizes unconditional data commitments, transparency, auditability, and separation of customer data from vendor AI training. For organizations requiring on-premises AI processing, GitLab Duo Agent Platform is available with Self-Managed deployments, allowing integration with self-hosted AI models where prompts and code never leave the customer's environment. GitLab also provides IP indemnification for Duo-generated output.
