Graviton2 Performance and Cost Optimization

1 post · May 2020 – Aug 2021

What this trail covers

GitLab is evolving its infrastructure strategy to leverage Arm-based Graviton2 processors for both the GitLab application and GitLab Runners. This initiative aims to provide significant cost savings and performance improvements for self-managed GitLab deployments, particularly for customers with high CI/CD compute usage. The focus is on benchmarking and validating the performance and cost-effectiveness of Graviton2 instances compared to traditional x86 instances, enabling customers to optimize their infrastructure. This post details the delivery of official support for 32-bit and 64-bit Arm-based GitLab runners in binary, rpm/deb packaging, and Docker image format, making them available in the 12.6, 12.9, and 13.0 releases respectively.
