On-Premises Chat Integration

1 post · Aug 2015

What this trail covers

GitLab is integrating an open-source, on-premises chat application, Mattermost, into its Omnibus packages. This provides an alternative to Slack for organizations requiring on-premises solutions. The integration includes automatic OAuth configuration with GitLab and aims to simplify setup and management. Future plans include enhanced posting from GitLab and CI to Mattermost.

  1. GitLab Mattermost, an open source on-premises Slack alternativeThis post announces the inclusion of GitLab Mattermost, an open-source, on-premises chat application, within GitLab's Omnibus packages starting with version 7.14. It details the collaboration with the Mattermost team to add PostgreSQL support and OAuth login, enabling integration with GitLab's OAuth provider. The integration is disabled by default and requires a single configuration change to enable. The post also outlines the benefits for on-premises users, the size increase of the Omnibus package, and the plan to release Mattermost in a beta state with GitLab 8.0.
