Building one of the highest-capacity subsea cables in the Pacific

This post details Meta's partnership with Google and Pacific Light Data Communication (PLDC) to build the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN), a new subsea cable system. PLCN will be one of the highest-capacity trans-Pacific systems with an initial design capacity of 120 Tbps, connecting Los Angeles and Hong Kong directly. It introduces a flexible approach to subsea cable deployment, separating the wet plant from optical technology, allowing independent equipment upgrades by each party as technology improves. This is the second such project for Meta, following the MAREA cable.
