This post details the partnership with Google and PLDC to build the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN), a new subsea cable spanning the Pacific. PLCN will have an initial design capacity of 120 Tbps and connect Los Angeles and Hong Kong, providing increased diversity and resiliency in the Pacific. A key technical innovation is the flexible commercial and technical approach that allows independence between the wet plant and optical technology, enabling parties to select optical equipment independently and facilitating equipment refreshes as optical technology improves. This agile approach is also being used for the MAREA trans-Atlantic subsea cable.
