All Microsoft trails
  1. Updated: Now available: Azure DevOps Server 2022 RTWThis post announces the release of Azure DevOps Server 2022 RTW and provides an update regarding Elasticsearch version compatibility. It details the required upgrade path for Elasticsearch from versions 2.x, 5.x, and 6.x to 7.x, including specific instructions for re-indexing when upgrading from older Elasticsearch versions. A table mapping Azure DevOps Server/Team Foundation Server versions to compatible Elasticsearch versions is provided.
  2. Updated: Azure DevOps (and Azure DevOps Server) and the log4j vulnerabilityThis post clarifies that Azure DevOps and Azure DevOps Server are not impacted by CVE-2025-68161 (related to Log4j's SocketAppender over TLS) because they do not use this vulnerable code path. It provides specific guidance for on-premises Azure DevOps Server and Team Foundation Server installations that use the Search feature (which depends on Elasticsearch and Log4j), recommending JVM upgrades, removal of the JndiLookup class, or upgrading to newer versions. It also confirms that Linux Azure Pipelines agents are not affected.
  3. Updates to Java requirements for TFS SearchThis post announces the official support for Azul Zulu OpenJDK for TFS Search, providing a free alternative to Oracle JRE due to Oracle's licensing changes. It details migration steps for older TFS versions and confirms Azul Zulu OpenJDK 8 as the default option in Azure DevOps Server 2019. The post also clarifies that while Azul Zulu OpenJDK community version is volunteer-driven, Zulu Enterprise offers commercial support.
  4. Introducing Search service authentication to make communications with TFS more secureThis post announces the enablement of basic authentication for communication between TFS and its Search service, enhancing security. It mandates upgrades to TFS 2018 Update 1.1 or TFS 2018 Update 3 to leverage this feature. The upgrade process requires providing new user/password credentials during Search configuration, which are distinct from TFS service or domain account credentials. Best practices for username and password complexity are outlined, along with recommendations for further network security enhancements due to the lack of HTTPS support for Elasticsearch.
  5. Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 CTP 3–After updating, editing work items from web gives you TF400898: An Internal Error Occurred.Addresses a DLL mismatch issue occurring after installing Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 CTP3 without the corresponding TFS 2012 Update 2 CTP3, leading to TF400898 error when editing work items from the web. Provides a workaround involving uninstalling specific TFS Object Model MSI packages and repairing the TFS installation to resynchronize DLL versions.
