FileVault Key Escrow Automation

Netflix is evolving its endpoint security capabilities by open-sourcing Escrow Buddy, a tool designed to automate the remediation of missing FileVault recovery keys on managed Macs. This addresses a critical gap in device management by ensuring that security and IT teams can reliably retrieve recovery keys, preventing data loss and productivity impacts for employees locked out of their machines. The system leverages macOS authorization plugins and integrates with MDM solutions to seamlessly generate and escrow new keys without user interaction, enhancing both security posture and user experience.
