What this trail covers

Notion's Developer Platform has been enhanced with new features including Custom Agents for deploying custom code to Notion's hosted runtime, enabling data synchronization and custom tools. This post details how Custom Agents are used to automate the content maintenance workflow for Notion Academy, comparing product changes against existing content and drafting updates. The system uses two agents and two databases to manage the content drift, with human review checkpoints before staging approved content to Parta via MCP.

All Notion trails
  1. How Notion built a Custom Agent workflow to keep Academy content currentThis post details the implementation of a Custom Agent workflow for automating Notion Academy content maintenance. It describes the use of two Custom Agents (Academy Drift Agent and Academy Drafting Agent) and two Notion databases (Academy library and maintenance tasks) to identify content drift caused by product changes, draft updates, and stage them for publishing via MCP. The workflow includes human review checkpoints for scope approval and final copy review.
  2. A skills library for every agentIntroduced the Notion Skills API, providing API endpoints for loading skills from Notion in spec-compliant file formats. This enables agent-neutral skill sharing and integration with external tools like GitHub for syncing skills and Vercel CLI for installing Notion skills. Open-sourced a starter kit for Notion-GitHub skill sync and highlighted Vercel's integration with the Skills API.
  3. Introducing Notion’s Developer PlatformThis post introduces Notion's Developer Platform, focusing on three key components: Workers for custom code execution within Notion's hosted runtime, External Agents for integrating third-party agents as native workspace participants, and the External Agent API for bringing custom agents into Notion. It also highlights the `ntn` CLI for unified interaction and emphasizes built-in governance features. The primary technical contribution is the introduction of Workers as a serverless compute environment for custom logic and data synchronization within Notion.
  4. UndatedWhat’s New – NotionThis post introduces a new 'Developer' section in the Notion sidebar for managing Workers, connections, and personal access tokens, offering an overview of deployed Workers and logs. It also adds a 'developer bar' for quick copying of various Notion entity IDs and their full API objects.
