Redis Cloud Pro now offers Smooth Scaling, built on Atomic Slot Migration (ASM), to enable faster and less disruptive database scaling. ASM allows for the movement of individual slots directly between shards, minimizing data movement and reducing the impact on live applications. This feature is available for Redis 8.4+ databases using the default hashing policy and RAM-based configurations.

ASM, previously introduced in Redis Open Source 8.4, allows for the direct migration of individual hash slots between shards. This results in shorter scaling windows, less data movement, and fewer client-side interruptions (redirects, timeouts) during scaling events. The feature is automatically enabled for compatible Redis Cloud Pro databases (version 8.4+, default hashing policy, RAM-based) without requiring code changes.
