Introducing Smooth Scaling: faster, more intelligent scaling | Redis

This post introduces Smooth Scaling for Redis Cloud Pro, a new capability that leverages Atomic Slot Migration (ASM) to improve the efficiency and reduce the impact of database scaling operations. ASM, previously introduced in Redis Open Source 8.4, allows for the direct migration of individual hash slots between shards. This results in shorter scaling windows, less data movement, and fewer client-side interruptions (redirects, timeouts) during scaling events. The feature is automatically enabled for compatible Redis Cloud Pro databases (version 8.4+, default hashing policy, RAM-based) without requiring code changes.
