Cloud Carbon Footprint Plugin for Backstage

Spotify has developed and open-sourced the Cloud Carbon Footprint (CCF) plugin for Backstage, an open platform for developer portals. This plugin helps development teams understand the environmental impact of their cloud usage across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. It converts cloud utilization into estimated energy usage and carbon emissions, displays metrics and carbon savings, and provides relatable equivalencies. The plugin also offers forecasts, recommendations, and carbon intensity maps, aiming to shift resource management left and integrate climate awareness into daily engineering practices.
