Announcing the Next Chapter for Bitbucket Pipelines Runners

This post announces a new operating model for Bitbucket Pipelines runners, introducing a free tier with up to 100 basic runners and an optional paid Premium runners tier. The billing for premium runners will change from a per-concurrent-build-per-month model to a usage-based model reflecting maximum concurrent build slots actually used. It details migration scenarios for existing users of v3 and v5 runners, outlining how workspaces will be transitioned to either free or premium runner functionality based on their current setup. Premium runner features are expanded to include premium support, pluggable storage, increased runner limits, runner management APIs, runner groups, disabling cloud runners, ephemeral macOS runners, auto-update, and advanced queue management. A new runner version (v5) will be released on June 3, 2026, which will be the upgrade path for both free and premium runners.
