Android Path Normalization

Dropbox's Android app has historically struggled with sharing files and folders containing special characters or unusual naming conventions due to inconsistencies in path normalization logic between the server and the client. This post details the development and implementation of a novel, low-risk solution to address these issues. The approach involved a counterintuitive fix using a global static variable to gate a modified path normalization logic, controlled by the Stormcrow feature flagging system. This allowed for a safe rollout and eventual removal of the gating mechanism once the fix was proven reliable, ensuring user data integrity while resolving long-standing bugs related to file sharing and display.
