1 post · Oct 2020

What this trail covers

Dropbox's API search endpoint has evolved from v1 to v2, offering significant improvements in performance (over 20% faster), reliability, and expanded file type support. The v2 endpoint allows for more granular control over search results through filtering by file extension and category, ordering by last modified time, and improved pagination. It also supports including filename highlights, mirroring the user interface experience. This evolution aims to provide developers with more powerful and efficient tools for accessing files within Dropbox.

  1. Search Files Using the Dropbox APIThis post details the technical enhancements of the new [/files/search_v2](https://www.dropbox.com/developers/documentation/http/documentation#files-search) endpoint compared to the previous v1 version. Key improvements include a >20% performance gain, enhanced reliability, expanded support for file types (Paper, G Suite/O365 online-only, unmounted files), and new filtering options such as `file_extensions` and `file_categories`. It also introduces `order_by: last_modified_time` for result sorting and an improved pagination scheme using `/files/search/continue_v2`. The `include_highlights` boolean is introduced to return highlighted spans in search results, mirroring UI behavior. Code samples demonstrate the usage of these new features.
