What this trail covers

The Donatinator is an open-source donation solution designed for small non-profits and charities. It aims to provide a free and accessible way to accept one-off donations and monthly subscriptions online. Key features include support for both single and recurring donations, basic Markdown page creation, and multi-user administration with reporting. The project is guided by principles of being open source, runnable on free hosting tiers, and minimizing costs to only credit card processing fees.

  1. The Donatinator: Simple donation solution for charitiesThis post details the creation of The Donatinator, an open-source donation platform. It outlines the motivation for building the platform (addressing the cost and feature limitations of existing donation platforms for small charities), the core principles guiding its development (open source, free hosting tier compatibility, minimal fees), and its initial features (one-off/recurring donations, Markdown pages, multi-user admin/reporting). It also discusses the choice of GitLab for hosting and the pragmatic use of free tiers from other providers. The author requests contributions (code, documentation, community participation), sponsorship, and users for the project.
