The Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) has evolved to power the next generation of agentic commerce, establishing a common language and functional primitives for seamless commerce journeys between consumer surfaces, businesses, and payment providers. It is built to work with existing retail infrastructure and is compatible with Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), providing secure agentic payments support. This post announces the formation of the Agent2Agent project under the Linux Foundation, which will be seeded with Google's transfer of the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol specification, accompanying SDKs, and developer tooling. The A2A protocol is an open standard for communication and collaboration between distinct AI agents, aiming to break down silos and enable a new era of powerful, collaborative, and innovative AI applications. The project will ensure vendor-agnosticism and community-driven development through neutral governance.
