Introducing Voyager: Spotify’s New Nearest-Neighbor Search Library

This post introduces Voyager, a new open-source nearest-neighbor search library developed by Spotify. Voyager is built upon hnswlib and offers substantial performance and efficiency gains over Annoy, including up to 10x speed increase or 50% more accuracy, and up to 4x less memory usage. Key features include multithreaded index creation and querying, identical Python and Java bindings, fault-tolerant index files, stream-based I/O, string-based identifiers, and dependency-free installation. Voyager has been in production at Spotify since 2022.
